String Hoppers Lemon Sevai & Chinese Style
String Hoppers – Favourite for all time item today for my breakfast & lunch.
STRING HOPPERS LEMON SEVAI
Ingredients:
- String Hoppers – 5
- Urad dal – 1tsp
- Channa dal – 1tsp
- Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
- Gr. chilly (split) – 1-2
- Lemon – 1/4 no
- Curry leaves – 1-2 sprigs
- Salt to taste
- Hing – a pinch
- Peanuts – 1tbsp
- Sesame Oil – 2-3 tbsp
Method of Preparation
- Heat oil in a kadai, Add mustard, urad dal & chana dal. When the mustard splutters add peanuts & fry till it turns golden color. Add chilli,curry leaves, hing & turmeric powder. Saute for 1-2 mts.
- To the tempering, add the scrambled string hoppers( I use scissors 😝 to scramble). Squeeze lemon juice. Mix them thoroughly. Adjust salt & lemon if required.
Tips & Notes:-
- You can also make breakfast recipes like upma, kichadi & sevai varieties with veggies.
- Sweet string hoppers can also be made with palm Jaggery syrup & Coconut milk mixed with the rice-millet flours than usual Coconutmilk & sugar.
STRING HOPPERS – CHINESE STYLE
Ingredients:
- Rice flour String Hoppers – 5
- Garlic – 5-6 cloves (chopped)
- Ginger – 1 tsp (chopped)
- French Beans – 1/4 cup (roundels)
- Carrot – 1/4 cup (roundels)
- Onion – 1/8 cup (sliced)
- Spring onion – 1/4 cup
- Soy sauce – 2 tsp
- Olive Oil – 2 tbsp
- Salt/Pepper Powder to taste
Method of Preparation
- In a pan heat a tblsn oil on medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot add the minced garlic & ginger. Saute for few secs until both starts to change color.
- Add sliced onions & saute for a couple of mts until the onion starts turning light golden brown.
- Add in the sliced carrots, french beans & cook for a min on high heat. The veggies should remain crunchy.
- Lower the heat & add soy sauce. Toss the veggies to combine well with the sauce.
- Add in the black pepper & salt to taste.
- Add the scrambled string hoppers. Mix it well so that it gets well coated with the sauce.
- Finally add the chopped spring onions for garnish & flavour.
Tips & Notes:-
- You can also make millet spring hoppers.
- You can also make much more lunch box recipes like Coconut rice, tomato rice, tamarind rice, lemon rice, veg- non.veg biriyani, pulav etc.
